| 1252 records show that there was a medieval church of St Helen situated on the west side of Escrick Hall. In 1781 a new church was built on the present site, constructed of brick with stone quoins and dressings. This church was replaced by a stone church built in the Gothic curvilinear style and was designed by Francis Cranmer Penrose, architect and surveyor to St Paul’s Cathedral, and was consecrated by the Archbishop of York, Thomas Musgrave, on 1 July 1857.Services are held every Sunday at St Helen’s and details of these and other special services and events can be found on the page ‘Our Services’ and also in the Calendar.St Helen’s enjoys a healthy community spirit and strong links are maintained with ‘Friends of St Helen’s’, Mothers’ Union and Escrick CofE Primary School. Numerous events and fundraising activities are organised throughout the year. |
